Financial Compilation
What is a financial compilation?
A financial compilation is a CPA service in which the accountant prepares financial statements based on information provided by management, without verifying the underlying data or providing any assurance. The CPA formats and presents the numbers but does not audit or review them. It is the lowest level of CPA involvement with financial statements.
When no assurance is enough
For internal management use, tax preparation support, or casual bank requests, compilation is often sufficient. Not everything needs an audit. If you just need professionally formatted statements and no verification is required, pay for compilation rather than the higher-cost services.
Upgrading when requirements change
Banks that accepted compilations for $100,000 may require review for $500,000. Investors who accepted compilations for seed want audits for Series A. Requirements escalate with stakes. Budget for higher service levels before you need them rather than scrambling during due diligence.
